Why use rubber instead of concrete or asphalt?
Hazard invented (1971) the idea of using rubber to manufacture speed ramps to enforce and control traffic speeds without any damage to vehicles.

How high are the ramps and can all types of vehicles drive over? There are three versions, 70mm high, 60mm and 50mm for speeds from5 to 20 m.p.h., and everything from a Smart car to HGVs can drive over.

Will the ramps slow my traffic down?Yes, drivers will slow down and pass over our ramps safely but, to be effective, ramps and signs have to be seen, whatever the conditions.

Are these speed ramps safe?
Manufactured from truck tyre stock rubber to prevent any damage to vehicles as they pass over, SpeedStoppers® are designed to be much more effective than the MOT guidelines of 100mm high ramps in urban areas!
     
  SR10 speed limit 5 to 10 m.p.h.: Create a safer working environment by firmly controlling traffic speeds. Maximum deterrent, reducing the risk of accidents where there is a high density mix of pedestrians and traffic.

SR15 speed limit 10 to 15 m.p.h.: Allows vehicles to pass smoothly over the ramp at speeds under 15 m.p.h. Manufactured in solid tyre stock rubber to take all types and weights of vehicles from Smart cars to HGVs.

SR20 speed limit 20 m.p.h.: For sites where the public have a right of access, these ramps will keep speeds down to a safe level. This heightof ramp allows drivers to pass over at 20 m.p.h.

Proven fixing plate with amber reflectors: The built in self-cleaning reflectors are an important safety feature of SpeedStopper®’s fixing plates. It can take a few seconds for a driver’s vision to adjust to different light levels. For maximum warning, speed ramps must be clearly seen day or night and in poor weather conditions.

BART speed limit 5 to 10 m.p.h.: The project’s objective was to design the toughest speed ramp on the market that can take all types of traffic. The heavily ribbed surface gives drivers maximum visual impact and warning. You can install this ramp with confidence in any location.

Are these ramps the same as used by councils in urban areas? No, this range of speed ramps are designed for “off highway” use only.Our Smart Ramp range, extra wide (1 metre), is similar to MOT design.

How long will they last?
Manufactured in quality tyre compound, traffic volumes may vary from site to site but our ramps have been proven to give over 15 years of service.

What are the correct warning signs? It is important to clearly show the speed limit for the site. The signs should be as the highway code, printed on reflective sign face material.

How tough are BART ramps?
Very. We recommend this version of our speed ramps for those heavy duty installations such as waste transfer stations, etc.

 
 
 
     
  Reflective warning signs give drivers a clear message toSLOW DOWN! The correct speed limit signs tell drivers how to drive over the ramps safely. We supply a wide range of signs in many combinations. Manufactured to BS873 and current EU regulations, our signs use highly reflective signface material.

Designed for a 15 year life:
Signfaces are very UV stable. Drivers will see the traffic signs clearly, day or night and even in poor weather conditions. Ophthalmologists claim a driver’s vision can be impaired for up to 30 seconds before their eyes adjust fully to changed light conditions.

Post mounted aluminium traffic signs are strengthened with channelling for use with posts and clips. Traffic posts have a tough plastic coating (as used on highways).
TP1 posts mount traffic signs with a 2.2 metre clearance from the bottom of the sign to ground level.
TP2 posts mount the signs a metre high, at driver’s eye level.
TP3 posts mount the signs 1.5 metres from ground level.

Please note that our wall mounted aluminium traffic signs are undrilled for mounting on to brickwork, concrete, cladding, most wall and flat surfaces unless requested to be drilled.

Signs can be fitted to existing posts and lighting columns using various size clips and stainless steel banding. Please state if signs are to be fixed back to back.

Why use reflective traffic signs? It is an important safety feature that the driver can see the warning signs in all weather conditions, day or night.

Are these the same signs as used on the highway? All the designs and layouts are similar to the MOT specifications. We offer a larger range of warning signs in a much wider range of sizes to suit all “off highway“ sites.

The sign we need for our site is not shown! Contact our sales team with your enquiry for special signs. We use the latest digital printing CAD machines. The answer is “no problem”.

Can I fax or email a sketch for a quote? We work from simple sketches to detailed drawings. Once the sign layout and design is in our computer we can fax or email a proof for your approval.
 
 
     
  Long life solid rubber: SpeedStoppers® ramps follow the camber of the road or car park. Heavy duty and solid EPDM tyre rubber is suitable for most extremes of climate and will repel attack from salt, oil and ozone.

Fixed to all types of road surfaces: Our anchor fixing bolts are designed for asphalt, concrete or blocks. Our standard FX fixing plates can be installed very quickly, it takes just a few minutes. For kerb to kerb locations, leave a small gap (100mm) at each end cap of the ramp for drainage and road gully cleaning. We cut our ramps, free of charge, to the exact length to suit your site, e.g. 4.85 metres, including end caps, making sure you get a perfect fit every time.

Concrete, Asphalt or Blocks: Our anchor bolts will secure our ramps to all road surfaces but it is important to drill the right size holes. Drill 14mm holes for concrete and blocks and 13mm or even 12mm for asphalt and tarmac surfaces, all holes to a depth of 100mm. Amber reflectors are an important safety feature and are an integral part of our FX plate fixing package. Designed for highway use, the amber reflectors are kept wiped clean and working 24/7 by all the traffic that passes over them.

What is the maximum length of our speed ramps? We cut to size free of charge and ship ramps of any length to suit any road width, car park or site layout.

Why use long lengths of ramp instead of small blocks assembled on site? Joints are kept to a minimum with longer lengths.

Heavy duty plastic modular ramps are on the market. Do they work? Yes, for a limited time and it depends on traffic volumes and weights.Remember, car tyres are made in rubber never plastic.

Most of these types of low cost budget speed ramp products are moulded in recycled plastic, a material NOT designed to give a long service life.

  Speed Bumps are supplied in sections that can be quickly assembled and laid in position. Each section of the solid rubber Speed Bump is designed to interlock with its neighbour. The interlock design gives the completed installation much more strength and stability.

Drivers need to see the ramps day and night: Each Speed Bump section has bright red reflectors to give drivers maximum warning that they are approaching a speed bump and to slow down. Changing light conditions and driving in poor weather makes the integral reflectors a very important safety feature.

No special tools to install a ramp: A powerful masonry drill is needed to drill 4 holes per section and 2 holes per end cap. It is important to drill 14mm holes in concrete or block surfaces and 12/13mm holes in softer surfaces such as asphalt and tarmac. All holes should be drilled to a depth of 100mm.

Speed Bump ramps can be installed fast: When the location has been established, assemble the sections for a final check. Make sure the Speed Bump ramp has been assembled in a straight line. You will find it easy to mark the position of the fixing holes with a drill bit and then remove the section and drill the holes to a depth of 100mm. Please note if you are drilling blocks, make sure you use a new and sharp masonry drill bit.

A proven design: The Speed Bump design has been tested on sites worldwide to give you a trouble free service life. Our ramps take all types of vehicles including HGVs.

Questions and Answers
Why use bolt down rubber ramps instead of concrete or asphalt? Rubber is a safe material to drive over reducing the risk of damage to any vehicle passing over the ramp. Bolting a speed ramp in position also increases the visibility giving approaching drivers maximum warning.

Will the colour rub off? No. Each section is moulded in self-coloured solid rubber making sure the speed bump will always have bright warning colours.

Can I re-site the ramps? All our designs of speed ramps can be relocated and re-sited. The 2 part fixing system that we supply will remain in the road surface effectively sealing the road. If you need any spares just call 0121 446 4433.
 
 
     
  Controlling your traffic flow and reducing drivers’ speed is a common problem. Most “off highway” sites have invested in reflective warning and speed limit signs but the message to reduce speed down to a safe level still does not get through, increasing the risks of an accident.

Why do drivers ignore all the signs and sometimes the road markings? There is no clear answer. Health & Safety recommend that you have clearly marked and defined pedestrian routes with safety barriers but for some sites this is not a viable option.

The HSE recommended solution is to slow down the traffic using speed ramps. If that is the conclusion, what is the next step? There is a choice. Close the road down for a couple of days and build ramps in concrete or asphalt in-situ or install a bolt down ramp in minutes that is designed for all types of traffic.

Why install concrete or asphalt ramps when it involves closing the road or parking area and a construction crew. When finished, you have a permanently altered road surface. This type of speed ramp also needs to be very oversized to be effective, and is high maintenance. Constructed speed humps need painting regularly and the problem of trapped surface water can also be a safety issue.

We think the solution to the problem is to bolt down a very wide and proven designed rubber speed ramp, very effective in slowing down vehicles. Drivers react when they see these type of ramps. Traffic control is an important feature of any risk assessment. If site issues arise, our systems give you the flexibility of re-positioning the ramps if needed.

What are the benefits of a wider ramp?
MOT approved shape is designed to slow down traffic safely with minimum discomfort to drivers.

Are these ramps good value compared with other ramps on the market? Yes. Solid rubber has a longer service life. Car tyres are never made from plastic or recycled bits of rubber glued and held together with resin.

Do I need signage to be installed on my site? Yes. Drivers need clear direction as to speed limits and obstacles on site. Warning signs inform drivers to take responsibility for their driving and are very important. Installing reflective MOT signs help get the message across.

Are the ramps approved by the Health and Safety Executive? Yes. In general, if you cannot segregate pedestrians from traffic with dedicated walkways and barriers, HSE will recommend that you install ramps.



 
 
  Extra wide Smart Ramp is designed for traffic control for speeds of 10 or 15 m.p.h. For anywhere that site safety and traffic control matters. Unlike some of the sharp and narrow ramps, the extra wide Smart Ramp is designed to be comfortable for the driver and passengers, when driven over at the correct speed.

The metre wide (drive-over) Smart Ramp is one of the widest available on the European market and gives similar benefits to a concrete or asphalt constructed ramp but with the convenience of bolt down solid rubber.

Long design life, over 15 years, for all types of traffic including HGVs. Each section of the modular Smart Ramp is moulded in a very tough high impact rubber, reinforced with carbon for maximum strength. Smart Ramp can be assembled on site in distinctive black and yellow hazard warning pattern for maximum daytime visual impact.

There are highly reflective yellow panels on the ramp giving drivers maximum advance warning of the ramp at night time or in poor driving conditions. Highway approved reflectors are an important safety feature.

Installation is fast and trouble free with only four fixing points per section of the ramp. Each sections is supplied with large fixing bolts and washers that are designed to take the loading. It is a proven fixing system. Fitting a ramp into position can be carried out live, with a power masonry drill, in less than an hour. Traffic is simply diverted around the installation as it is fixed down avoiding any road closures.

For extra safety, each ramp is finished with end caps, if possible leave a small gap at each end of the ramp for gully cleaning.

Questions and Answers
Why have ramps made from rubber, why not asphalt or concrete? A more consistent and accurate shape is achieved because it is moulded and there is no need to paint the ramps to mark them clearly for approaching drivers. They also work at night because of the amber reflectors.

Having a social conscience, is this the right type of ramp for our customers? Yes. Sometimes the drivers are your customers. They want to be safe so they expect some traffic control but do not want to be deterred from coming back.

I have a busy site. Do we need to install these ramps out of hours? No. Our products are designed to allow fitting on a live road where all traffic is safely controlled and diverted around the part of the road being worked on.

  Customised traffic signs giving approaching drivers clear warning that there is a speed limit in place on your site is very important. Unless otherwise detailed in highway approved design drivers can assume that the national lower speed limit of 30mph applies to your site.

We manufacture a wide range of reflective traffic signs with speed limits of 5, 10 and 15mph. This range covers most off the highway sites however, being a digital process there is no artwork charge if you want a different speed limit to suit your site.

Our design service includes the background colour of the aluminium sign plate, we can supply the plates stove enamaled in a RAL colour with a traffic grey finish on the reverse side. The signs can be finished for wall mounted, post mounted, lighting column mounted and back to back assemblies to use existing columns and posts or to keep the number of new installations to a minimum.

Choose from the wide range of reflective traffic signs and keep your site clutter free. We can produce multi signs, manfacturing and designing the traffic sign to suit your site. Our design team will send you a coloured proof by email or greyscale by fax and at this early stage any alteration to your design is free of charge.

The metre wide (drive-over) Smart Ramp is fitted as standard with tough reflective panels. Another option is to paint the ramps rubber surface with chorinated yellow or white rubber paint. This is a very effective method but does involve regular maintenance to keep the painted surfaces clean and bright. The SMART ramps can be painted on site after installation, the paint is quick drying avoiding costly road closures.
